Pictures galore!

Ok! Pictures! Hoorah! I got my third package this week today! Can you believe it? No pictures of the third package, I'm afraid...just Ramen, Stove Top, yarn, knitting needles, and a book!

Ok, here's the package I talked about in the last post...



























And here's what was in the package...I LOVE them! They're bamboo cutting boards (they smell great...really earthy and just....ahhhhh) BUT they look like books! How cool is that???














And here's what my bestest friend in the world sent me...his name is Herby and he quacks songs. 'Cuz he's one talented duck. I tried to get an action shot, but it just came out all blurry...




















And finally, this is why I almost never blow dry my hair...I fought with it for a few minutes and eventually just gave up...I'm now wearing a headband...

Like something out of a Victorian novel...

Ok, I don't know if you might consider this sad (in a pathetic sense) or not, but I feel like I need to put this out there...

I've been really homesick lately, a condition exacerbated by the fact that I'm exhausted, stressed, and feeling ill. Well, today, I got a package from Mom and Dad. I knew one was coming...Mom had told me that she had ordered me a surprise. I went to the UPS Store and came back from the UPS Store in our 90 degree weather. When I got back to my room, I cranked the AC and opened up the box. Inside was another box wrapped in beautiful colored paper, complete with a gold bow and a note from my parents that said, "Something for your "new" place...Happy Easter! Love, Mom & Dad."

Something about the wrapped box with it's neat little note was so comforting. Now, nearly 15 minutes after opening the box that this little package came shipped in, I still can't bring myself to unwrap it!

I'm sure I'll open it eventually...probably soon...but for now, the wrapping paper and "Love, Mom & Dad" are making me feel like I'm home already.

I hope you all get to have that same feeling this spring!

Oh, and dance performance #2, the Ron Brown show, was awesome! Even better than the Delfos performance! Yay for the performing arts!

Dance performance 1....and a recap....

Ok, so I just got back from the first of at least two dance performances I'm watching this weekend (possibly a third...a friend's tango showcase? we'll see...). This performance was by the Mexican modern dance troupe Delfos Danza Contemporanea.

The show was one of the most visually striking and stunning that I've ever seen. The lighting was phenomenal, the choreography was gripping, and I was so impressed by how the dancers could be so delicate but so physical at the same time...they made you feel every stretch and step. The show was incredibly emotional and gorgeous and I would see it again any time, but it fell to a fate worse than death...it had the wrong audience.

Ok, so this is modern dance. There was even a little disclaimer on all the ads..."This show contains partial female nudity." All the mission statements of the troupe talk about how they aren't there to put on a play, but to explore the beauty of the movements of the dancers' bodies. So, answer me this, why did all the nursing homes come??? The average age of the audience could not have been less than 60 years old. *sigh* ASU was so concerned about getting people in the door, that they started marketing it to the worse audience possible for this show. I sat next to a group of about five and throughout the entire show the guy next to me grumbled about "those queers and lesbians. This isn't ballet." No, sir, no. It's not ballet.

Grrrr.....

All my dear friends, go and expand your horizons for me, ok??? Please? Don't get old and cranky and closed-minded!

Tomorrow, I'm going to Ron Brown and the Evidence dance troupe performance. I was so lucky to be in my African Dance class and have a master class taught by Mr. Brown. It was amazing and I'm really excited to see his troupe's performance tomorrow night. His whole theory is the exploration of spirituality through the combination of dance styles from all around the world, especially traditional dances of Africa. This particular performance, "Order My Steps," is based on Psalm 119 and will apparently feature a local Baptist choir.

Last week (I meant to blog about it! oops!) I saw Stomp! It was awesome, even if I was in the bloodiest of the nosebleed seats! :-D The energy and creativity of the show were mind-boggling and made me want to go out and compose something...like an entire opus in tuning forks or something!

Hopefully another update tomorrow, but no promises! I haven't done half the homework I should have by this point! Aieee!

Oh! And if you have Sci Fi Channel, I highly recommend the new Dr. Who series. It's a great show that manages to expand upon while still respecting the old stuff. Really, it's great. Promise.
